The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) is the short name for the 1992 Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction. It is administered by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), an intergovernmental organization based in The Hague, Netherlands.

The convention entered into force in 1997. The parties' main obligation under the convention is to prohibit the use and production of chemical weapons, as well as the destruction of all current chemical weapons. The destruction activities are verified by the OPCW.
Bangladesh signed the Convention on 14th January 1993, and ratified the Convention on 25 April 1997. Armed Forces Division, under the Bangladesh Armed Forces, is designated as the National Authority for administering the issue in Bangladesh.
To implement the provisions and fulfill the obligations under the Convention, Government of Bangladesh, published the Chemical Weapons (Prohibition) Act, 2006 on 24th September 2006, and the Enrollment Rules, 2010 under the Act on 23rd March 2010.
Bangladesh Government also incorporated provisions in the Import Policy Order, 2015-2018 under paragraph 26(59) of Chapter Six.
